One of the questions we get a lot from people is, “Should I tip the plumber?” We asked Jeff Jones, our fearless leader and the owner of Southern Plumbing, so we got an answer straight from an expert!

Do You Tip a Plumber? Here’s Our Answer to That Question

Our Nashville plumbers prefer a good review instead of a tip. There are two reasons for this:

  1. People are bombarded by tipping. Due to tipping fatigue, Jeff and his plumbing team want to spare their customers from the hassle of yet another situation where they must tip. No one likes scrambling to find cash, calculating percentages, and then awkwardly handing it over while wondering whether you’re being silently judged (we’ve all been there!). We’re relieved to tell you we prefer you to skip the tip! 
  2. A good review goes further than a tip. If you have had a good experience with your plumber, leave them a 5-star review instead of a tip because that review will help bring them more business. Even if it’s just a short and sweet one-liner like “Appreciated the work from this plumber,” leaving that on their Google business listing or Facebook page (or wherever they prefer receiving their reviews) is much more valuable than a $20. As you can guess from this recent appreciative review we got from a happy customer, a glowing review is both a mood boost for us AND a vote of confidence in our business that will help win over potential future customers: 

“FANTASTIC job. We have found our new plumbers! Southern Plumbing Works have reasonable prices and won’t up charge you. The boys that came to the house today did a wonderful job putting in a water line, spigot and fixed a small leak. They were informative, polite, on time and just plain great.”

We can’t speak for all plumbers everywhere when answering the “Do you tip the plumber” question, but our Southern Plumbing Works team probably isn’t the only one who prefers 5-star reviews over tips. What is the best way to know for sure when it comes to your preferred plumber? Ask them!
